For the seventh year running, Big Rapids Public Schools has been honored with the SupportMusic Merit Award from The NAMM Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education. The SupportMusic Merit Award recognizes individual schools that demonstrate outstanding achievement in providing music access and education to all students.
To qualify for the Best Communities designation, BRMS Band Director, Albie Todd, answered detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, and support for the music program and community music-making programs. Responses were verified by school officials and reviewed by The Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas.
“This year, only 21 Michigan school districts received this designation. Thanks to the continued support for music education at BRPS, there are a lot of great things happening here!”
- Albie Todd, BRMS Director of Bands
“This is a great accolade that recognizes the hard work and commitment of so many throughout the district.”
- Josh Bull, BRMS Principal
We take great pride in our school and community's dedication to embracing a wide array of electives, including a strong emphasis on music education. We firmly believe that these diverse electives play a crucial role in crafting a comprehensive and well-rounded educational experience.
Congratulations to all who support music education in and around the Big Rapids community!
