We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the City of Big Rapids for organizing this year’s Rainbow Trout release and inviting our 6th-grade students from Big Rapids Middle School (BRMS) to participate!
Our 6th graders had the exciting opportunity to hand-release the trout into the Muskegon River. This effort not only enhances the genetic diversity of trout in the area but also helps create a prime fishing location that contributes to the local fishing economy.
This experience ties perfectly into our 6th-grade science curriculum, where students learn about and raise Chinook Salmon right in the classroom. The trout release serves as a hands-on, connecting activity, allowing our students to apply what they learn in class to a real-world conservation effort.
We are grateful for this collaboration and the valuable learning experiences it provides!
