There's something about a Friday night football game in the fall. The smells of autumn, the crisp air, and the camaraderie amongst the fans as they cheer on their team. The fall leaves changing, the sounds of the fight song from the band and the drums booming in your chest, the smell of popcorn and hot dogs, and the little children watching and dreaming of the day they get to run out onto that field. Fridays in the fall bring all these "feels" to our local football fields.
This Friday, however, fans should prepare for something more!
Today, as Big Rapids hosts Tri-County in a varsity football game held at Cardinal Stadium, fans are in for a big event. The stakes are high in terms of the game itself, as both teams are fighting for a conference championship and both teams have talent that is sure to make for quite a show! But this Friday the Cardinals and Vikings will be doing more than winning or losing a football game.
This Friday Big Rapids and Tri-County will be paying honor to our veterans during this high-stakes competition. There will be various presentations including paying tribute to current staff members from both schools who served in the military, honoring fallen veterans, and even presenting an honorary diploma to a veteran who left high school early to serve in the Vietnam War.
Tonight both teams will be competing fiercely to represent our individual schools, there is no doubt! But what will be different this Friday is that we will all join together, as citizens of this country, to honor the men and women who fight and protect us all. Tonight all the feels of fall football will also include extending our gratitude, opening our hearts, and swelling with pride for our fellow Americans who serve.
We invite you to join us in honoring those men and women tonight. The pre-game ceremony will begin tonight, October 6th, at 6:30 pm and the game is slated to start at 7:00.
