Best Elementary Schools

Big Rapids Public Schools is proud to announce that Brookside Elementary and Riverview Elementary have been recognized as 2025 Best Elementary Schools in Michigan by U.S. News & World Report. This esteemed honor reflects the schools’ commitment to academic excellence and preparing students for lifelong success.

The U.S. News rankings evaluate schools on their students’ proficiency in mathematics and reading/language arts state assessments, while also factoring in socioeconomic demographics to ensure a fair comparison. Schools that rank highly demonstrate both strong academic achievement and success in educating students from diverse backgrounds.

“This recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our students, teachers, staff, and families,” said Superintendent Tim Haist. “We are thrilled that Brookside and Riverview have been acknowledged for their exceptional efforts to help every student succeed.”

The rankings are calculated on a state and district level, based on a composite score that considers standardized test performance and equity. This rigorous methodology underscores the importance of preparing all students with the core competencies needed to succeed in high school and beyond.

Brookside and Riverview’s inclusion among Michigan’s top-ranked schools highlights the district’s mission to foster an environment where students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Congratulations to the staff and leadership at Brookside and Riverview! BRPS is incredibly proud of this achievement. Our schools strive to ensure every child reaches their full potential, and this recognition reflects that commitment.
