Departments
District Info
Our Elementary curriculum offers teachers flexibility in grouping children by their levels as indicated in testing and content mastery. Teachers can tailor learning to the various leveled groups in their classes.
Our Middle School offers accelerated classes for mathematics at all grade levels and offers high school credit for Algebra I and Geometry for qualifying students. Acceleration is dependent on NEEA MAP scores, classroom performance, departmental placement testing, and teacher recommendation. High School credit is also offered for Spanish.
Dual Enrollment Classes
Big Rapids High School currently offers dual/concurrent enrollment opportunities through Ferris State University, Mid Michigan College, and Lake Superior State University. This is an opportunity for current high school students to get started on their college coursework before graduating high school. For more information, visit our Dual Enrollment page.
Honors Courses
These courses will use the same textbook as the regular class, but the pace of the course will be much faster. In addition, the classwork will require more independent and rigorous work.
Based on successful completion of the course, students will earn the distinction of an honors-level class on their high school transcript.
To determine admittance to honors courses several criteria will be considered. Entrance is based on teacher recommendation, academic success , and the student’s test scores. Class size is limited and BRHS staff reserves the right to decide how many students will be admitted.
